5 DIY toys for your cat - ZERO WASTE

Anybody who has a cat knows that they will play with literally anything, no matter how absurd it looks, no matter how destructive it is to your belongings and also, no matter how dangerous to them. It is our responsibility as their parents to supply them with toys but also to make sure these toys are safe to play with.

During first few months of sharing my home with a cat, I saw their ability to turn literally anything into a toy as a disadvantage. But after some time I realized, it can also be a good thing. Cats will be thankful for and will play with almost any toy, there is no need for any expensive pet store toys - although I do not have anything against them and own few of them myself, I prefer to make my own, especially because they are easy to make from scraps you have at home, making them zero waste, and also because toys in our home do not last very long, so that is one more reason to make them from material that would be thrown out anyway.

1. T-shirt Cat Toy

Everyone has a t-shirt they grown out of or is just overall unwearable for variety of reasons. Instead of throwing them out, you could cut it up into short strips and make these fabric knots for your cat. The fringey ends are sure to make your cat want to play with it.

2. Old Sock Cat Toy

If there is anything that is granted to not last for a lifetime, it is socks. Once they are worn out, It might be a good idea to stuff it with some paper, plastic bags or you can even add catnip. See the complete guide here: Homemade Sock Cat Toy

3. Cardboard Cat Ball

I personally have a really good relationship with cardboard. This material is very accessible and not especially dangerous to cats if not ingested great amounts and my cats generally are not very fond of eating it. It has so many uses from cat houses to different toys and my cats love it every single time! You can find the guide to this cardboard ball here: Cardboard Cat Ball Guide.

4. Toilet Paper Roll Cat Ball

If you are feeling a bit lazy with the ball, this is also an glue-free alternative to the previous ball!
